Records of Typographical Union No. 6 comprise a small but pertinent collection on worker benefits and the typographical trade during the Depression and World War II. Minutes, 1927-1966, of the Benefit Board as well as rulings and reports of the Special Appeals Fund, 1936-1938, and policy statements on old age benefits, 1907-1948, provide significant material on union benefits during periods of economic crisis. Minutes, 1939-1943, and scrapbooks, posters, election materials, clippings, leaflets, 1931-1933, as well as a 75th convention journal (1930), and financial reports (1933) further illustrate union activities during the Depression. Samples of the Monthly Bulletin, 1954-1956, are also included in the collection.

The National Typographical Union was founded in 1852. The name was changed in 1869 to the International Typographical Union. It is the oldest trade union in the United States.
